Blak & Blu

Gary Clark Jr.Happy Sunday! Here’s a quick post on a cold and cloudy January day.

Gary Clark Jr. IS for real, a refreshing change from today’s canned, over-processed, over-produced music we are all too often forced to hear. When you play either of the black or the blue vinyl from the special Black Friday Record Store Day release “Blak and Blu”, you sense Gary has spent his fair time paying his dues and that he wasn’t the most recent winner of some generic prime-time talent show.

Gary Clark Jr.He plays and sings with soul and sounds like he’s been doing this for decades. There is not a bad song on the entire album and it is one of those rare releases that has a strong set from the moment the needle touches the vinyl on side 1 all the way through side 4.

If you haven’t heard him yet, I highly recommend you drop a few dollars and buy this 180-gram vinyl treat.

Here is an impressive review from Artist Direct: Gary Clark, Jr. has accomplished the impossible with Blak and Blu.

Blak & Blu SmoothieI racked my brain to match up a recipe for Blak and Blu and then the little light bulb went off – Blueberry smoothie. Full of powerful antioxidants and delicious flavour the smooth taste of the blueberries and the powerful punch from adding coconut water will keep you satisfied for hours.

Before I get to the recipe here’s a bit of info on blueberries.

  • Good for the blood and liver
  • Support eye health
  • Useful in the fight against urinary-tract infections
  • Great source of Vitamin C

Oh, and by the way, I was lucky enough to pick these myself from an organic grower right in Kelowna. If you have the opportunity to pick any type of berry it’s way more cost effective than buying from the store. You can pick a ton of them and then freeze.

Blak & Blu Smoothie

1 banana, fresh or frozen

½ cup blueberries, fresh or frozen

1 tsp cinnamon

2-3 tbsp coconut yogurt

1 cup coconut water or spring water

Add the ingredients in order to your blender and blend until smooth. Add more or less liquid to your desired thickness. Add a few fresh blueberries and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top to make it extra special.

Note: Using frozen bananas will lend to a creamer and thicker smoothie.
