Pulp Fusion

First, we at the Groove Garden want to wish you all a Happy New Year! We had a awesome night bringing in the new year with good friends, music, food and drink. We’re really excited for 2013 – we know it’s going to be an awesome rockin’ year.

Pulp fusion

I have been a fan of funk music for a long, long time. My foray into the land of funk began with James Brown, followed by Parliament/Funkadelic and branched into many other areas of the genre that gets your groove going. In fact, my love for funk is apparent in the name of our little company “The Groove Garden”!

Funk was huge in the 70’s and continues to be the basis of some popular genres of music today such as hip hop/rap, soul, R&B, house and even some indie music. Listen to Lenny Kravitz, Gary Clark Jr., The Black Keys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and you’ll hear some funk buried deep in the drums and bass.

The Pulp Fusion series of albums released by Harmless records contained 10 albums/CD’s of pure funk, some obscure and hard-to-find monster jams and other more popular titles that are recognizable from blaxploitation movie themes and samples used in current house and drum & bass music. I had heard a few of the albums on a funk blog and was instantly addicted to the music of each of the albums. I had feared that I would not actually get to feel one of these albums with my own two hands. My luck changed earlier this year when we had traveled out of town. This album was purchased in Vancouver and is the first I have seen in person. I will not be placing this for sale anytime soon, if ever. One of my favourite albums in my collection, I will now be seeking the other 9 to complete the series. If you ever come across Volumes 1, 2, 4-10….let me know.

Pulp Fusion Juice

You know what’s harmless and so good for your body? Juice! Fresh pressed vegetable and fruit juice. We own the Champion juicer and it’s definitely one of the best purchases we’ve ever made.

The great benefits of juicing are endless. The whole basis is separating the pulp, the fibrous threads, from the juice. That highly nutritional liquid is absorbed in the body with ease giving your digestion system a break.

Here’s why it’s a good idea to add juice to your diet:

  • Helps in the absorption of nutrients in the veggies and fruit
  • Allows you to consume a high amount of veggies
  • Weight loss
  • Think clearer
  • Higher mental sharpness and awareness
  • Increase in energy
  • Glowing skin

A good point to note as well is when you buy veggies for juicing make sure they are organic. You don’t want any pesticides or chemicals in your fresh juice.

I enjoy drinking juices a few times a week, usually bringing a juice to work for me to sip on during the day. Some folks go on full out juice fasts or cleanses where they drink only juices anywhere from 3 days to 1 week in duration.

Juicing is really growing in popularity. There are now businesses popping up offering juice delivery service. These companies will deliver fresh juices to you on a daily basis making it so much easier for those with a busy schedule.

While we were in Vancouver this past summer we even came across a food truck that only serves fresh veggie and fruit juice. Really genius!

I’ve tweeted my juices a few times but I thought I would share my current favourite juice creation.

Juice Ingredients

Pulp Fusion Ecstasy

Crank up some funky music and enjoy the energy you get from this fresh juice treat.

1 Gala or Fuji apple, cored

6 stalks of celery

1 lemon (I usually leave the skin on)

Inch piece of ginger

Inch piece of turmeric

Juice all ingredients and enjoy!

  • Make sure to use organic fruits and veggies when juicing.
  • Save the pulp after to add to muffins or make crackers. I don’t ever get to save my pulp because my two dogs go crazy for juice pulp. They stand beside me while I juice waiting for me to give them the pulp. All the fiber and nutrients are a great treat for them.
